2020 will see Fergal collaborate with Rainer Kiebat (Producer) on multiple TV projects including; Murder at the Wild Atlantic Way and Red and Green. He is also working on a sitcom set in Denmark called The Danish Project. The Filmbase/RTE production of his award-winning script Propeller will also be released in 2020. Working with renown writer/director/producer Liam O’Neill, the comedy short The Spectator will be filmed in 2020 featuring IFTA award winning actress Ger Ryan. Fergal’s most notable work in TV and Film includes the sitcom Hipsterverse (2019), Season One of which will be screened on PCEN in the US. Season 2 will follow in 2020. Short films include the award-winning Eyes Wide Open (2017 Silver Screen Award Nevada, Miami, Berlin Festivals) Ribeye (2016 Semi-Finalist PAGE International Screenwriting Awards), Bio (2016 Official Selection Miami, Los Angeles, Antwerp and Dublin Film Festivals) and Glass Ceiling (2014 Quarter-Finalist PAGE International Screenwriting Awards). His feature screenplay Shem was a Finalist in the Amsterdam Film Festival.


Fergal was a winner of the Hennessy Short Story writing awards in 1997, which led to the publication, in 2000, of his debut novel Trolley Ride in Manhattan (Mentor Books). His short story Silvercup was shortlisted for the inaugural Colm Toibin International Short Story Competition and another short story Cube was long-listed for the same competition in 2016. He has also written four radio plays broadcast by RTE Radio. Fergal is resident writer with Wytao Films, working with his long-time friend and collaborator, the actor, director and producer William Morgan.


Fergal O’Byrne (born 17 May 1966) is a Dublin-born writer, now living in Copenhagen. Fergal has been writing for screen, stage and radio for over 20 years and it became his full-time career in 2013. He has won awards for his stage plays; A Dragon’s Tale (Winner: Eamon Keane Award 2013), Folie-a-Deux (Runner up Listowel 2015), Extremophiles (Winner: Eamon Keane Award 2018, Long-listed: Papatango Prize 2018, Official Selection NEWvember Festival 2017), and Trust No One (Short-listed: Eamon Keane Award 2018). His play Extremophiles will receive its world premiere in Copenhagen in October 2020 when That-Theatre Company will stage the play in the famous Krudttønden Theatre. This will be followed by another world premiere, with the same theatre company, of his bitter-sweet comedy Rub-a-Dub-Dub in February 2021.
