Childhood and Education
Phillipa Soo was born on May 31, 1990, to a Caucasian mother and a Chinese father in Libertyville, Illinois, in the United States.
Philipa’s mother studies the arts, while her father is a doctor. In Southern Illinois, Soo was raised.
Soo’s parents were adamant about her having a good education while also encouraging her to pursue her acting profession. From 2004 through 2008, she attended Libertyville High School. In 2012, she received her diploma from The Julliard School’s acting program.
Career
After receiving her degree from Julliard, Soo was cast as Natasha Rostova in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, a play based on Leo Tolstoy’s War & Peace.
In 2014, Philipa was contacted to audition for the lead female character of Eliza in the musical Hamilton by composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and director Thomas Kail. The performance became one of the most well-known Broadway musicals ever.
